BlogCircleBannerWelcome to our LATEST edition of LightBox Stories Blog Circle!  I am SO glad you are here!  My name is Anna Robertson, and I am a Family and Lifestyle Portrait Photographer in Northern California.  This year along with all the photographers in the LIGHTBOX STORIES blog circle, I am capturing our family’s life in one image a day.  I am so EXCITED to be partnering with this group of talented photographers from around the world!  Being a part of this group means we have people who encourage, challenge and help us along the way of our 365 journey. Thanks for looking at the images of my life and reading my story!  Please be sure to read through to the bottom and follow the blog circle around the globe, you don’t want to miss ANY of the TALENTED photographers:-)

This month, JULY,  has flown by SO fast!  We fit in a few vacations, MOVED into our house!  And celebrated birthdays!  It has been a wild ride!  Honestly I have missed a few days here and there, mostly around house moving time:-)  BUT I love that there is still a flow of our everyday life, even if a day or so gets missed!  I look through these images and see the story of our life.  I am such a fan of capturing in images the story of your family. That is why I am SO honored when I get to capture a snippet of your life, and stop time in the images I capture.  So that years from  now, or maybe just weeks you will look back and smile at who you were then, and remember to enjoy the beauty that is your life right now, even if it feels messy today!   The following are my favorite images of the month:-)  I hope you enjoy!

We went to family camp, and one day we ventured on a 5-mile hike.  This guy, actually both were champs, but he needed a little pick me up a few times:-)365_182_Blog188|365

Today concrete patios were poured!  One step closer to moving in! It was QUITE exciting to watch and dream:-)365_188_Blog193|365

The first birthday of the month is Tom’s mom’s, She blesses us so much throughout the year, we hope she felt special:-)  My niece made a special cake, and we had dinner, AFTER she worked hard at our house all day!  I LOVE this image, and the smile on her face:-)365_193_Blog195|365

We told the boys we would sleep in the house the VERY first night we could SO the day after we got final, we camped out in Daniel’s room…then we slept at our old house until we moved our beds:-)  Or at least our mattresses!  But it was fun, and I think they will always remember it!365_195_Blog203|365

Shortly after we moved in, we were out to dinner and got a text from our neighbor that there was a fire close to our house, 2.5 miles away.  Thankfully the fire fighters attacked it and it didn’t spread and was contained shortly after we got home.  No homes were destroyed and we got this most amazing sunset due to the smoke in the air.  Fire season is upon us, we are praying for all the firefighters fighting and the people displaced due to the fires across our state.365_203_Blog207|365

This guy, well actually all of us, got to fly to Monterey and go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium for his birthday!  I guess that’s what happens when your Grandpere is a pilot and you invite him to drive to Tahoe for his grandson’s birthday:-)  He calls back with a different plan.  Needless to say he won’t soon forget his 9th birthday!365_207_Blog211|365

A quiet game of chess on a chilly summer morning, a nice occurrence after fighting and wrestling all morning!365_211_Blog

I love how these images let you see our life, our personalities and the beauty that I am learning to see and appreciate with my eyes.  I am thankful for the assignment to observe, capture and mostly be thankful for our days right now, and be challenged to see the beauty in the everyday.  I am SO excited for what the rest of the year will bring!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our life!  Now PLEASE go and check out Sonia Epple’s Photografie’s month.  I love this group of photographers!  I am inspired and encouraged daily. AND don’t forget to check back next month as we post our images from August.  This year is going to be fun!

MyStory_01

Welcome to My Story Monday!  Mondays are the day I invite you in and turn the camera on my life so you can see some of my family’s story!  This Monday is about getting away:-)  As you know, My family and I built a house this past year, in fact we just moved into our new home this past weekend!  So, I probably should be posting pictures of it, but I have had this blog on my mind since we came back from our getaway, so you will have to wait for the coming house pics.  This is where the coming back comes in:-)  I know I have been a bit absent from social media and the blog, but I have not been absent, simply focusing on family, the house, and my clients! 🙂

I have written about getting away before, and last time it was a simple camping trip used as respite in a CRAZY year.  But this time the trip was BIGGER.  Still so very much needed, but it took planning and advanced thought;-) Two years ago, my family and I were introduced to Family Camp at Campus by the Sea.  We were instantly fans, deciding that year that this would be a family tradition.  Maybe not yearly, but definitely regularly (I actually think we thought it would be yearly, but we skipped last year due to house design/building).

In January when it came time to ACTUALLY register, we thought FOR SURE we would be in our house in May, so a week away sounded AWESOME!  BUT in JUNE when it was actually time to go, not only were we not in our house, we were actually only a week or so of work away from being finished!  Making the trip seem like such UNBELIEVABLE timing!  I was dreading leaving as we were packing up to go.

But from the moment we drove into the port parking lot, I knew it was the right decision.  As we sailed away from the coast of Long Beach and were out in open water, I felt my shoulders relax and instantly thought about the fun we were going to have.  The crossing over to the island is like magic, going to a place where the kids roam free, and the parents relax.  Meals are made for you, water sports are available, and your kids spend their days at a VBS-like program, while you dig in deep with a small group.  It’s amazing and refreshing!

I LOVED watching the port slip away as we left, knowing that everything would be there waiting for us when we returned.

150628_08_Blog

These boys claimed no memory of the last trip, but they eased right into life on the island within seconds of being there.

150629_04_BlogWe camped out in a tent cabin for the week, there are “real” cabins available, but we like these.  I have however promised the boys that I WILL request a “real” one next year!150629_12_BlogIf you have kids, you will know, throwing rocks into any water is a must.  This boy had one disappointing morning, and then spent an hour over here throwing rocks big, and small, and soon all was right again.150629_06_BlogIn the middle of the week, to give you a “break” from the schedule, we head to Avalon or spend the day on the waterfront.  We chose the 5 mile easy  difficult hike.  The boys were AWESOME!  They made it with minimal complaining, I was SO proud!  The hike was difficult for ME!  It was SO awesome to come around a corner and see the familiar bay of Avalon.  Familiar to me as my family spent several summers in town and on that bay.  We had a great day, and then took the boat back to camp.150701_07_Blog150701_12_Blog

The camp is beautiful, and the schedule includes night activities, one of which I left to capture this:-)  It was SUCH a beautiful night, and I cannot wait to hang this print on my new fireplace!150630_17_BlogCamp is the perfect easy vacation.  There is no other camping trip where I get away with doing mostly nothing!  I mean, I didn’t have to pack or prepare ANY meals, nor did I have to help pitch a tent, light or tend a fire, or entertain the boys all day!
150702_03_BlogThe food is AMAZING for camp food, it’s definitely not how we eat at home, but I love how everything is family style, how it’s ready and waiting when I arrive at the table, and we all work at clean up.  The last night they do a banquet for the parents, we put on a little nicer camp clothes and are served a special meal.  It’s like a 100 person date;-)  No really it is quite fun!150703_09_BlogAnd then at the end of the week, we say goodbye, vowing to come back next year and live it all over again.  We say goodbye to our new and old friends, and venture back to reality, hoping to take a little of what we learned and a bit of the peace that engulfed us here.  It really is a sweet family vacation!150704_01_Blog

Getting away as a family is SO important.  It’s a chance to break out of your norms, and see each other in a different way.  A place where laundry, work, and daily monotony are left behind.  It doesn’t mean the kids magically get a long, or they always make the best choices but it is just ALWAYS better on vacation! Sometimes it can only be a day, but if you can I would totally recommend it!  And take pictures, or sketch, or whatever you do to capture your memories, do it!  And then on days when the monotony has gotten the best of you, bring out the images (which really means you should print them!) and remind yourself of the fun you had, and how GREAT a blessing that family with all it’s monotony REALLY is!

This week brought packing, shopping, game playing, fighting, and tennis!  I am SO thankful to be part of LIGHTBOX STORIES and be inspired and encouraged by them to continue to tell my story.  Being a family and lifestyle portrait photographer I “sometimes” focus on documenting other people’s families through pictures, prints, art, and albums, and neglect to capture the memories of my own family:-)  This year I am trying to make sure that doesn’t happen:-)  AND as I keep challenging myself and shooting, I aim to improve my storytelling images so that not only does my family benefit, BUT you do too! It’s win-win!  Thanks for looking at the images of my life and reading my story!  As we are getting so close to finishing our house, I find myself forgetting to capture our everyday, sometimes until later in the day:-)  BUT I am doing it!

Don’t know what I am talking about?  Check out the FIRST TWENTY-FOUR WEEKS of my 365 project.

You both have had money in your wallets forever.  But you found a gift card, and couldn’t wait to use it.  Your brother, he just HAD to spend his money, because if you got something HE should surely get something as well!  You carefully weighed your options, you wanted to spend just a bit over the $5 gift card, realizing that $5 doesn’t get you much.  Your brother on the other hand, he wanted to spend ALL he had to get the biggest thing he could.  It was funny to watch you two and your differences as we shopped.  It was a joy to let you pick what you wanted and let you spend your money.
365_170_Blog171|365

You get a long very well, but sometimes, you need some intervention.  Games are always a good distraction and this is one of our favorites right now.365_171_Blog172|365

It was late evening, I didn’t want to pick up my camera, but when I saw this I had to.  We will miss the tree cover at our new house…365_172_Blog173|365

It’s getting close, a couple more weeks to go and we should be ready to move in!  I am SO excited!365_173_Blog174|365

A local brewery had a paint night, it was close enough to my birthday, so I went with a friend.  It was a fun night:-)  I am not sure my painting is display worthy, but the beer and the food were great AND the company was even better.365_174_Blog175+176|365

These “may” have been taken the same day, but it STILL counts because we have been doing this every morning this week!  This is an awesome camp, and both boys are loving it this year!365_175-176_Blog

Sunsets on our soon to be patio…I’m in love!  We have been spending more time here having more meals out here, and just enjoying God’s beautiful creation right on our doorstep:-) Oh and that tractor means Verde is here, working on our patios and driveway:-)

Lunch Sundays, with this guy…We went out to lunch after church, and lo and behold we ran into the grands visiting their favorite lunch spot:-)  Newcastle Produce is a favorite local lunch place, pastry place, and local market:-)

365_165_Blog166|365

Library trips, they are almost constant this summer.  Holden got 6 books the first trip, and he finished them in a day!  SO off we went, I made him wait a week;-)  But we got 6 more, a couple classics (classical to him), which are taking a bit longer to get through.  Loved the shadows while walking with my boys:-)365_166_Blog167|365

I am running, and training for a 5K, it has been SO long and it feels SO amazing to run with NO pain!  i am definitely taking it slow, but it feels good!365_167_Blog168|365

Thanks to the grands, we had a couple date nights this week, and we took advantage by getting take out and eating it on our soon to be new patio!  LOVE my love, and our time together…It was SO nice to relax, eat, and talk while watching the sun fade behind the hills.  And dream.  Oh and admire all the new lighting! 😉365_168_Blog169|365

Today, I attended a bible study with some women from the church we have begun attending.  While I was driving to the host’s house, I came across this “little free library” I had to take a picture for Holden!  He would LOVE this!  I could see him doing this in our neighborhood.  It was too cute to pass up!365_169_Blog

The last day of school.  We are SO thankful for friends and teachers!  We have been SO blessed this year!365_156_Blog157|365

Daniel LOVES to wrestle, and attack you!  Holden gets in on the action too.  Nowhere is safe!365_157_Blog158|365

You wanted your haircut, but wanted to wait until the end of school.  Shortly after you regretted it…but you have such a good attitude, now saying, “It will grow back!”365_158_Blog159|365

Your faces, usually they are cracking us up, but sometimes you catch us off guard with your soulful gazes.  I am so glad I caught this rare and beautiful glimpse of you.365_159_Blog160|365

Evenings are still spent at the house, but since you have learned to ride your bike, you join us, and enjoy it more:-)  I love this glimpse through the window of your brother riding and you in with us.365_160_Blog161|365

Today, just because it rained, and tennis was canceled we had pancakes, and hot cocoa.  I indulged you with whipped cream and sprinkles:-)  I love surprising you with sweets since, I keep them from you often.  You were happy!365_161_Blog162|365

Progress!  AND cabinets!  They look SO amazing thanks to Tom.  He didn’t plan to install them all, but he did, working tirelessly throughout the week to get them done so the counters could be measured!  It is exciting and I am SO grateful!365_162_Blog
